Scotch Line History Fair Sunday, June 12, 2016
Ecotay
10am to 4pm
Keepers of the Stories
Tay Valley invites you to the Scotch Line History Fair to celebrate our settlers’ stories through words, imagery and song. Learn about their tenacious survival techniques, engineering feats, traditional crafts and about such mysteries as the Lanark Greening Apple. Experience how their stories are being kept alive by both past and future generations.
This special 200th anniversary event happens on Sunday, June 12 (10am to 4pm) at Ecotay Education Centre – homestead of the Ritchie family who arrived here from Scotland in 1816. Highlights of the day include an expansive selection of student (grades 4-8) history exhibits; historic mapping online, demonstrations like quilting, weaving, split rail-fence building and clearing the land; military re-enactments; tractor displays and archaeological digs.
Be on-hand for the book presentations and signing of “At Home in Tay Valley” by Kay Rogers and “Influence & Ambition” by Ron Shaw. In between these book talks you’ll enjoy an engaging writer’s panel discussion called “Inspiring Youth to Care about History” featuring the authors Tim Wynne-Jones, Roy MacSkimming, Kay Rogers and book publisher Rick Roberts.
To get you kicking up your heels and tapping your toes we’ve got two superb musical bands – “Long Sault Trio” with Linda Marie Grenier, David Tilston and Victor Maltby; and “Scour the House” with Juno award-winning James Keelaghan, Hugh McMillan (Spirit of the West) and Kelly Hood.

The Perth Manor Boutique Sunday, April 10, 2016
Melwood Cutlery (on grand piano), has invited Long Sault Trio, featuring Linda Grenier, Dave Tilston and Victor Maltby, along with Dave Card on percussion, for a one time, not to be missed event at the Perth Manor on Sunday, April 10, 2016 at 2pm.
MELWOOD CUTLERY is a Canadian Roots performer who parlayed his voice into fame over several decades playing self-penned cool blues, pop-rock, and country inspired music. Hailed as “the hippest songwriter around” by David Francey, renowned for his own work both here and abroad, Cutlery’s lyrics tell stories from his Ottawa Valley roots to the ancestral “Hills of Aberdeen”. He’s played festivals and venues across Canada and the US, from Dawson City, Yukon to Austin, Texas.
A four star Globe & Mail review describes “a beautiful voice and powerful songwriting”. His song from the album “Campfire” recorded in Ottawa called “Ballad of the Moonlight Lady” received an OCFF “Songs from the Heart” award in 2006. http://www.melwoodcutlery.com/HOME.html
LONG SAULT TRIO took its name from the Long Sault Creek in McDonald’s Corners, Ontario. Like the creek, their music meanders through Folk with hints of Blues, Jazz and Traditional music. They have played festivals and venues around Lanark County and are becoming popular due to their multi-generational appeal. As performing songwriters/composers, their three-part harmonies and blend of acoustic instruments, mainly violin, saxophone, mandolin and guitar, place the trio’s repertoire of original songs in high demand for private and public venues alike. https://www.longsaulttrio.ca/long-sault-trio/
Tickets are $35.00, including hors d’oeuvres and refreshments. Seating is limited! Tickets are available in advance by calling Perth Manor @ 613-264-0050
